Welcome to CheckTheBooks, an online marketplace and directory that connects finance, business, and related service professionals (“Experts”) with individuals and businesses seeking their services (“Customers”).
CheckTheBooks is operated by Elevate Alpha Limited, a company registered in England & Wales (Company No. 15195059) (“we,” “our,” “us”).
By accessing or using our website at www.checkthebooks.com (the “Platform”), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
Our Role
CheckTheBooks serves as a meeting point where Customers can find and connect with independent finance professionals.
We are not a service provider, employer, or agent of any Expert. Each engagement, agreement, or transaction is made directly between the Customer and the Expert.
We do not supervise, control, or guarantee the work, performance, or conduct of any Expert, nor do we provide professional services ourselves.
Escrow and Payment Protection
CheckTheBooks provides Escrow payment protection to promote trust between Customers and Experts. Payments made through the Platform are securely held in escrow until the Customer confirms that the agreed work has been completed.
Once confirmed, the funds are released to the Expert after applicable deductions such as fees or taxes. In the event of a dispute, CheckTheBooks may temporarily hold funds until the issue is reviewed and resolved.
Decisions related to escrow disputes are made based on communication and evidence available within the Platform. Communications that occur outside CheckTheBooks (such as by phone, email, or messaging apps) cannot be considered valid evidence in resolving disputes.
Verification of Experts
To help build trust and credibility, we conduct identity and credential verification for Experts using both internal checks and reputable third-party verification providers.
Verification badges indicate that an Expert’s information has been reviewed, but they do not represent an endorsement or guarantee of performance.
While verification adds transparency, Customers should still exercise their own judgment before engaging any Expert.
Platform Features and Fees
Certain services and features on CheckTheBooks may attract fees, including but not limited to:
- Expert verification and credential checks
- Escrow payment handling
- Featured or promoted listings
- Calendar booking and consultation tools
- Lead generation and visibility options
All applicable fees are shown before purchase and are non-refundable unless required by law.
Bookings and Payments
Customers can book or purchase services directly through the Platform. When CheckTheBooks processes payments, we act solely as a payment collection agent on behalf of the Expert.
Experts remain fully responsible for the delivery and quality of their services. Customers should review the Expert’s terms, including cancellation or refund policies, before completing a booking.
Disputes and Resolution
In the event of a disagreement, both parties should first attempt to resolve the matter through the Platform’s messaging system.
If resolution cannot be reached and the payment was made through Escrow, CheckTheBooks may step in to mediate. Our review will be based solely on the information and communication within the Platform, and our final decision on escrow-related disputes will be binding.
User Responsibilities
Experts must ensure all details on their profiles are accurate, lawful, and not misleading. They are responsible for the quality and accuracy of their work and must keep all communications within the Platform.
Customers must conduct their own due diligence, review Expert profiles carefully, and ensure payments are made only through CheckTheBooks. This ensures eligibility for escrow protection and proper record-keeping in case of disputes.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CheckTheBooks and Elevate Alpha Limited disclaim all liability for the actions, performance, or omissions of any User.
We do not guarantee the accuracy, suitability, or quality of any services provided by Experts.
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including any loss of data, business, or reputation arising from your use of the Platform or reliance on any verified or listed information.
Intellectual Property
All content, logos, text, and materials displayed on the Platform are owned by or licensed to Elevate Alpha Limited. You may not reproduce, distribute, or reuse any of our materials without prior written consent.
Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any User account or access to the Platform if we believe there has been a breach of these Terms, misuse of the Platform, or suspected fraudulent activity.
Third-Party Links and Integrations
The Platform may contain links or integrations with third-party services such as identity verification tools or payment gateways. These are provided for convenience only. We are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or practices of these third parties.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes arising will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. The most recent version will always be available on this page and will include the updated effective date at the top.
